FEATURED POET - FEB & MARCH:
LISSETTE HAND
“writing about myself is extremely difficult. I would much rather share myself through my poetry and short stories. That is where you will find the most authentic version of me. Under the protection of my prose or in the shadow of my characters I can share all the brilliantly, dark and beautiful things I have in my soul without fear or shame. So I can tell you the details of “me”... daughter of Puerto Rican parents; loving mother of three amazing humans; hard-working registered nurse; sexual abuse survivor; mental health warrior. But if you truly want to “know” who I am, just read my work; you will find my soul there. My hope is that sharing my journey through darkness might help light someone else’s path.
I write to break the silence around mental health struggles and to remind others they're not alone. Through my work, I hope to show that our deepest wounds can become wellsprings of compassion and that there is power in embracing all parts of ourselves – even the shadows. As both a healthcare provider and someone who has faced my own battles with mental health, I believe in the transformative power of sharing our stories honestly and without shame.
I aspire to create work that serves as a gentle reminder, that wherever you are in your journey, your story matters, and hope is always within reach.”
